Cookie Policy

Cookies that keep Depth secure and working.

Effective September 14, 2026 · Version 2026-09-14-r2. Depth currently uses necessary cookies to operate the site, protect accounts, and remember cookie-notice and training-risk acknowledgments. We do not currently use advertising cookies or sell cookie data.

What We Store

The session cookie, normally named depth_session, identifies your browser session so Depth can maintain sign-in state and protect forms. It does not contain your password. It is normally kept for the browser session, although some browsers restore session cookies when reopened. Server-side sign-in permission expires after at most 14 days and may end earlier through logout, security changes, or administrative-session limits.

depth_cookie_notice remembers acknowledgment of the Cookie Policy. depth_training_risk remembers acknowledgment of the training-risk notice. These contain random receipt identifiers, not the text of your account or dive records. A copy may also be kept in your session to reuse a valid acknowledgment when you submit it again.

Signed-in athletes' appearance preferences are stored with their account rather than in a separate appearance cookie.

Necessary Cookies and Acknowledgments

Depth does not currently use advertising or analytics cookies, so there are no optional cookie categories to manage. Acknowledging this notice records that you have seen it; it is not permission for advertising or tracking. The training-risk acknowledgment is separate and does not make breath-hold activity safe. If optional cookies are introduced, we will update this policy and provide the choices required before using them.

Duration And Records

The cookie-notice and training-risk cookies are set with a one-year browser lifetime. Each receipt is valid on the server for up to one year from its recorded acceptance, or until the applicable notice version changes. Reusing the same receipt does not extend its server-side validity. You may therefore see a notice again even if a cookie is still present.

For each new acknowledgment, Depth stores its date and time, notice version, a one-way receipt hash, and one-way network and browser hashes. The record can also include your account identifier if you are signed in. Repeated submissions reuse a valid receipt rather than creating another acceptance record.

Scheduled cleanup removes acknowledgment records older than one year that are not linked to an account. Account-linked acknowledgment and safety records may be retained longer for security, dispute resolution, and legal purposes as described in the Privacy Policy. Cookie expiration and deletion of server records are separate events.

Other Browser Storage and Controls

The connections page uses browser session storage to remember its page path and scroll position during sorting and navigation. This is not an advertising identifier. The saved value is removed when restored and normally ends with the tab session, although browser recovery may restore session state. Browser site-data controls can also clear this storage.

You can delete or block cookies through your browser. Blocking necessary cookies may prevent sign-in, form security, or other site features from working. Clearing Depth's site cookies may cause notices to appear again. Deleting a browser cookie does not itself delete your account or the corresponding server record; contact us to request deletion of personal information.

Third Parties

Depth does not currently load third-party advertising or behavioral tracking cookies. Links to other sites are governed by those sites' policies.

Questions And Changes

Contact Depth through the contact page with privacy or cookie questions. Material changes will be reflected here and may require a new acknowledgment.

Safety Disclaimer

Freediving is beautiful, powerful, and dangerous.

Effective September 14, 2026 · Version safety-2026-09-14-r2.

Depth Development, LLC, a Utah limited liability company, does not provide medical, safety, coaching, training, rescue, or professional diving advice.

Core Safety Position

Freediving and breath-hold activities can cause serious injury or death. Blackout, loss of motor control, drowning, barotrauma, decompression-related injury, panic, entanglement, environmental hazards, marine life, boats, currents, weather, and medical conditions can create severe or fatal risk.

Never freedive or practice breath holds alone. Avoid hyperventilation before breath holding. Blackout can occur on land or in shallow water. Always use qualified safety support, appropriate supervision, conservative planning, and training from qualified professionals. Depth is a software platform for athlete profiles and records; it is not a substitute for instruction, judgment, emergency preparation, or medical advice.

What Depth Does Not Do

Timers, O2/CO2 tables, goals, and voice prompts do not measure oxygen or carbon dioxide, detect blackout, monitor you, or summon help. Defaults and labels are not individualized recommendations or safe limits. Devices, browser timing, and audio can fail or be delayed, including when a tab is backgrounded or a device sleeps. Never prolong a breath hold while waiting for an alert.

Pressure and Boyle's-law lung-volume illustrations use simplified assumptions. They are not physiological predictions, a dive computer, or tools for decompression or gas planning. Email verification does not establish identity, qualifications, fitness, or the validity of a record or certificate. Comparisons and personal bests are not targets you should attempt.

Depth does not certify that a dive was safe, that an athlete is fit to dive, that a record should be attempted, that a training plan is appropriate, or that a location is safe. Public profiles, logs, records, charts, media, or Depth Cards provide profile and performance information only.

Do not use Depth to decide whether you or another person should freedive, train, compete, supervise, rescue, or participate in breath-hold activity.

Privacy And Locations

Dive locations can reveal routines, private sites, travel patterns, and safety context. Profiles start with private visibility, but profile names, usernames, and uploaded profile and hero images remain public. Dive records follow the available visibility settings. Athletes should publish only information they are comfortable making public.

Emergency Boundary

Depth is not monitored as an emergency service. If someone may be injured, missing, in distress, or in immediate danger, contact local emergency services and qualified rescue resources immediately.
